2026 Florida Scallop Season: Dates, Limits, and What to Expect
Florida scallop season is one of the most anticipated summer traditions on the Gulf Coast. Every year, families, friends, and visitors head to Florida’s shallow Gulf waters to enjoy a unique adventure that combines snorkeling, exploring, and harvesting fresh bay scallops.
If you’re planning to participate in the 2026 Florida Scallop Season, here’s everything you need to know.
When Is Florida Scallop Season in 2026?
The 2026 recreational bay scallop season for the Pasco Zone runs from:
July 10, 2026 through August 18, 2026
Because the season is relatively short and highly popular, many scalloping trips book weeks in advance.
What Is Scalloping?
Scalloping is often described as an underwater treasure hunt.
Participants snorkel over shallow seagrass beds searching for bay scallops resting on the bottom. When a scallop is spotted, swimmers simply dive down and collect it by hand or with a small dip net.
It’s easy to learn, family-friendly, and suitable for most ages and experience levels.
Where Can You Go Scalloping?
Florida’s Gulf Coast offers several productive scalloping areas, including:
- Pasco County waters
- Hernando Beach
- Bayport
- Homosassa area
- Other approved Gulf Coast scalloping grounds
Conditions vary throughout the season, so locations may change based on water quality, weather, and scallop populations.
What Should You Bring?
For a successful scalloping trip, we recommend bringing:
- Mask and snorkel
- Swimsuit
- Towel
- Reef-safe sunscreen
- Water and snacks
- Waterproof camera (optional)
Many guests also bring fins to make swimming easier.
Why Is Scalloping So Popular?
Unlike traditional fishing, scalloping is a hands-on activity that gets everyone involved.
Families enjoy spending time together in the water, kids love searching for scallops, and many guests appreciate bringing home fresh seafood to enjoy after the trip.
It’s one of the few outdoor activities that combines adventure, exploration, and a delicious reward at the end of the day.
